“Nature is so much bigger than people think.” -Craig Ratay
This is my dad. He told me this when we were sitting on a blanket at a folk music festival a while back. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but over the years, I’ve found myself repeating it to others. It seems so simple, but truly, the vastness of the Earth and its natural systems is too much for some people to comprehend.
On the other hand, our contribution as humans to this vastness needs desperately to be recognized. I guess it’s going to have to take some kind of reconciliation between the overwhelm of how big Nature really is, and how much we affect it on a large scale.
Whatever the case, happy birthday, Papa. Thanks for teaching me to think big.
